Multi-factor authentication (MFA)
Frequently asked questions

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is critical because it significantly strengthens account security and reduces the risk of unauthorized access.

  • Protects against password theft
Even if your password is stolen or guessed, MFA adds an extra security layer—such as a code from an authenticator app or SMS—making it much harder for attackers to gain access.
  • Reduces cybersecurity risks
Cybercrime and phishing attacks often target passwords. MFA helps prevent breaches by adding an additional layer of security to your account.
  • Protects sensitive data
For platforms like MyEaton, MFA safeguards things like marketing data, customer information, and personal details, ensuring integrity and confidentiality.

  • Codes are sent via email by default, but if you wish to authenticate with a different method (such as text message), select your preference in security methods.
  • After your initial authentication, you will only be prompted to enter a code every five days. You’ll need re-authenticate sooner if you sign in via a new IP address, from an unrecognized device/location, or you’ve recently cleared your cache/cookies.
